Reed is the founding partner of the
Firm. For the past fourteen years,
he has practiced all aspects of
worldwide intellectual property law,
with an emphasis on patent and
trademark prosecution, client
counseling, and intellectual
property due diligence. A
significant portion of Reed's
practice involves providing
patentability, noninfringement, and
invalidity opinions. Reed also
drafts licenses, assignments, and
development agreements; and he
handles appeals before the Board of
Patent Appeals and Interferences and
in federal court.

Mark
D. Trenner
Of Counsel

|
Mark has been in
practice for nearly eight years,
first as a patent agent, then as a
patent attorney. He has
developed significant expertise in
the following areas of intellectual
property law: preparation and
prosecution of United States and
international utility and design
patent applications, preparation and
prosecution of trademark
applications, and managing
international patent and trademark
portfolios. Mark's technical
background covers a wide variety of
technologies, including electrical
and electronics devices, computer
hardware and software, chemical and
environmental processes, and
mechanical devices.

Timothy R.
Newlin

Tim is currently a third-year
law student at the University of
Colorado, where his coursework
emphasizes intellectual
property. At the Firm, Tim
performs legal research and
assists in the drafting of
patent applications, Office
action responses, and other
USPTO correspondence. In
addition, Tim performs legal
research related to ongoing
litigation matters of the Firm.
Tim previously worked as a legal
intern at the CU Technology
Transfer Office, doing legal
research and drafting related to
the commercialization of
University intellectual
property. Prior to
attending law school, Tim worked
at SchlumbergerSema as a test
engineer. His work there
involved developing and testing
custom GIS business integration
applications for large utility
sector and government clients.
Tim has his B.S. in electrical
engineering from Colorado School
of Mines.

Maria A.
Heimbecher Chief
Operations Officer

Maria handles the
financial and human resource issues of the
firm. She is able to pull from
her Masters degree from the
University of Colorado and her years
of prior experience as an office
manager at a high-tech company and
an oil company, as well as six years
of accounting in two large law
firms. By overseeing the day-to-day business of the firm,
Maria maximizes the time available
for the
attorneys to practice substantive intellectual property
law. Prior to coming to
Colorado, Maria was involved in
marketing for an advertising agency
in Manhattan, NY whose accounts
encompassed a number of Fortune 50
companies.

Anne R.
Carlberg Legal
Secretary

Anne has been
involved with intellectual property
law as a legal secretary and in
management since 1988. Prior
to joining Heimbecher & Assoc., LLC,
she worked with partners at two
established Colorado firms,
assisting them with both prosecution
and litigation matters. Prior
to entering the legal field, Anne
worked in the engineering field as a
production supervisor, an office
manager, a secretary, and a
technician. Anne is familiar
with a number of software programs
for word processing, generating
spread sheets, creating flowcharts
and presentations, and docketing.
And, if necessary, she even has
experience working as a welder!

Adam D.
Malmut

Adam joined
Heimbecher & Assoc., LLC in
September 2003 after obtaining his
Bachelor’s degree in English and
Communication from the University of
North Carolina. Since joining
the firm, he has received training
in intellectual property docket
systems and patent office
procedures, including resident
training at the U.S. Patent and
Trademark Office and professional
training in the use of the Firm’s
current commercial docketing
software. Adam is responsible
for all docketing, data entry, and
report generation at the Firm, and he
oversees inventory of all firm
supplies. In addition, he
coordinates with domestic and
foreign associates concerning the
payment of all maintenance and
annuity fees. Adam also
assists the Firm’s attorneys with
legal and other research, putting
his prior experience as a research
assistant at the University of North
Carolina to good use. While
completing his degree, Adam was a
manager in the specialty food and
restaurant industry, with
responsibility for staffing,
payroll, and inventory control. |
